Chemical Peels
Following a thorough consultation and medical assessment an appropriate course of treatments containing our favourite chemical exfoliants will be selected for you.
WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?
A chemical peel is a minimally invasive procedure that helps improve the appearance of skin. During the procedure your specially trained Practitioner carefully applies combinations of powerful solutions to the face, décolletage (neck and chest), or hands to remove dead skin cells. The solutions penetrate into the skin, causing dead skin cells to peel off. The new skin is smoother and more refined looking.
There are many types of chemical peel preparations, and the right preparation for you depends on your skin type and desired results. Light or superficial chemical peels usually consist of alpha and beta hydroxy acids, such as glycolic, lactic, or salicylic acid, that are combined to improve the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Mild to moderate photo-ageing
- Rough texture and uneven skin tone
- Reduce acne, blackheads and superficial acne scarring

FAQs
Will it hurt?
Do I need to prep my skin before a peel?
Avoid: laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, waxing, depilatory creams, electrolysis, sunbeds and sunbathing for 7 days prior to a peel.
Also avoid using: Topical retinols, retinoids and Tretinoin and AHA/BHA acids such as glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide, exfoliating masks and hydroquinone should also be avoided.
If you are not sure, then check with your Practitioner.
Will there be any downtime?
The peels we offer at GSN Aesthetics are fairly light, but you can still get some light peeling, flaking, redness, dryness and itching in some cases. Use plenty of moisturiser to ease this and do not pick!
Some people experience a minor pimple breakout following their peel. This will quickly clear up.
Do I have to do any after care?
Use plenty of moisturiser if you are dry or flaky. Vigilant use of a sunscreen for the face with an SPF of 50 is essential, especially for 2 weeks after each peel.
No sunbathing or sunbeds during a course of peels and for 2-4 weeks afterwards, depending on the peel.
Your active skincare: retinoids/retinols, BHA/AHA’s, etc can be restarted after 5-7 days. Ask your Practitioner for individualised advice.
Do not exfoliate until your skin has recovered. No sooner than 5-7 days after your treatment.
Do not pick, scratch or pull any peeling skin off! This can lead to hyperpigmentation and scarring.
Can anyone have a peel?
You can’t have a peel if:
You are pregnant. Talk to your Practitioner though, as we do have a nice treatment that you can have!
