Skin cycling is trending on social media sites, such as Tik Tok. This method might sound new to some consumers, but many of us skincare professionals use this approach as standard. 

What is skin cycling?

Skin cycling refers to a structured skincare routine that alternates active ingredients with rest or recovery nights.

Skin cycling is a rotational skincare routine that alternates between applying actives one night and then allowing the skin to recover the next.

It’s what I’ve always recommended, especially for beginners or people with no specific skin conditions.

How skin cycling works:

Skin cycling is a method rather than a product and doesn’t necessarily require purchasing new products – it’s about strategic use of actives that may already be in your routine. 

Recovery days are built into the routine to support skin repair, good skin barrier functioning and tolerance.

Its popular because you get skin improvements without the irritation that often results from actives, such as retinols.

What are the key benefits of skin cycling?

Skin cycling is ideal for you if your introducing actives like glycolic acid, salicylic acid or retinol.

The simplicity of this method separates actives clearly, reducing confusion and the risk of overuse.
