What are the best aesthetic treatments to consider in your 40’s?
What happens to your skin in your 40’s?
From about the age of 40, as you’re approaching perimenopause or menopause, there are hormonal changes, often with big fluctuations, accompanied by a big dip in collagen production with changes overall, in skin tone and texture.
Because there is slower and less efficient collagen production than there was in your 20’s and 30’s, you may start to notice more skin laxity, deeper lines and wrinkles and volume loss in the face. Skin cell turnover also slows down even more in your 40’s, so you may notice that your skin is dull, and your complexion loses that natural glow.
So, what treatments can restore that glow?
Hydrating skin boosters and biostimulators, such as polynucleotides can target various signs of ageing and you can treat the entire face at the same time. Examples of the treatments available at GSN Aesthetics are: Juvederm Volite, Profhilo, Viscoderm Hydrobooster and Plinest. These are not fillers and will add little or no volume. In the case of skin boosters, they are an injectable hyaluronic acid gel, which stimulates collagen and elastin production to deeply hydrate the skin and can diminish fine lines and wrinkles, reduce skin laxity and restore plumpness and that dewy quality to the skin.
Dermal Fillers can restore the structure of your face. My aim is to restore lost volume, not give you volume where you’ve never had it! Very subtle, natural results can be achieved with this principle in mind. You will still look like yourself, but perhaps a few years younger.
Radiofrequency Microneedling (Secret RF) can tighten and lift the face, neck and chest. It is a great treatment for moderate skin laxity. This treatment will stimulate your body’s natural elastin and collagen production and by targeting the deeper layers of the skin, can tighten and lift the face, neck, or chest. Targeting more superficially also improves skin texture and tightens pores.
Things to remember if you’re considering aesthetic treatments.
Always choose an experienced medical practitioner. Ask them questions about their experience and training. A good practitioner will offer you a thorough consultation and assessment, and will discuss your wants, needs and budget, before recommending a treatment plan.
Remember your home skincare regime. If you are not taking care of your skin, for example by cleansing, moisturising and using retinoids, vitamin c and a sunscreen, then your treatment outcomes may not be as good or last as long.
Lifestyle matters. Never more so than in the perimenopause and menopause years! Managing stress, getting enough sleep and exercise, limiting alcohol, not smoking, a healthy diet, and keeping hydrated all matter…a lot!
